Housing affordability is a delicate matter. For all we know providing adequate and affordable housing has been the greatest challenge facing urban areas in the past few decades. From housing policies and political decrees to informal hands-on approaches to tackle the challenge, we are finding between the failures of visionary architects and urban planners and politically driven social housing programs, pockets of success; sometimes planned, but very often informal and sporadic. On a quest to collect this patchwork of interdisciplinary stories we hope to be able to understand the needs and demands of those very same people that were once lured into the cities to work there. Along with socio-cultural facets of housing affordability we are also interested in economic and political drivers that are essential for the sustainable urban development of our cities. Therefore we welcome contributions ranging from recent design projects to spatial, economic, and political research on affordable housing and sustainable development of our built environment.
What do we do? We critically observe! But we can't do it on our own. And we are especially thrilled about your critical opinion.
